If we had to choose a favorite winter month, it would be February. Why? It’s a month jammed full of winter fun – for everyone! Here’s the scoop of what’s going on this month.
1. Cozy Getaways

2. Shadow Fest in Downtown Charlevoix
Friday – Sunday, February 6 – 8
The first ever Groundhog Shadow Fest is set for this weekend. The festival will include snow sculptures, Shadow Fest sales at local shops, horse drawn wagon rides, chili cook off, kids games, Petoskey Steel Drum Band, entertainment and more! View a full schedule of events here.
4. Tuesday Wine Tasting at Stafford’s Pier Restaurant
Tuesday, February 10, 5:30 to 7 pm
Join us at Stafford’s Pier Restaurant on the second Tuesday of each month for a taste of select wines paired with Chef Britt’s appetizers. $10 per guest.
5. Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides
Every Saturday through February 28
Stafford’s Bay View Inn in Petoskey offers horse drawn sleigh rides through the historic community of Bay View. These 1/2 hour rides are from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and are $15 for the public, $10 for lodging & dining guests of the Inn. Reservations encouraged, 231-347-2771. All sleigh rides are weather permitting.
6. Petoskey Winter Carnival

8. Burt Lake Fireworks & Polar Plunge
Saturday, February 14
Watch people jump into the frozen Burt Lake for Michigan Special Olympics. This event is hosted by Hoppies on Burt Lake and money raised supports the Emmet, Charlevoix and Cheboygan chapters of special Olympics. The event begins at noon, followed by the plunge at 1 pm. Sunday, February 15, 1 to 3 pm at Stafford’s Pier Restaurant in Harbor Springs
Calling all chili lovers – this is a hot event for a cold winter day! Amateurs and professionals compete for the “best chili.” This event supports food pantries throughout Emmet, Charlevoix and Antrim counties. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable item for donation. $12 for adults, $5 for children (8 to 12 years old). Need more info or a registration form? 10. Cork & Canvas – A Creative Evening
The ultimate girls night out – an evening of art and wine! Local artist Katie Brines, will provide step-by-step instructions allowing you to create a one of a kind masterpiece on canvas. No painting talent required! Our fee includes all supplies, wine tastings and light hors d’oeuvres. Each guest will take home a finished piece of artwork. 11. Snow Shoe Adventures
Grab your snowshoes and get out for some fresh air, there are trails to explore everywhere! Or, head out to the Grateful Snowshoe Benefit for the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society!
