Cheers Downton Abbey Fans – This One Is For You

By September 10, 2019 No Comments

Downton Abbey, the film is set in 1927, and features a royal visit to Downton Abbey by King George V and Queen Mary. To celebrate, we invite you to join us and enjoy two cocktails popular in the UK in the early 1920s.

It was originally believed to have been created by famous bartender Harry McElhone, while he was working at London’s Ciro Club in 1919. At that time, he used equal parts of white crème de menthe, triple sec and lemon juice. It was not until he had his own Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, in 1923, that he adapted the recipe by swapping the crème de menthe with gin.

  • The White Lady: Petoskey Stone gin, Triple sec, lemon juice and sugar syrup $7

Both a French and English bar claim to have invented the combination of cognac, Cointreau and lemon juice for a customer who arrived at the location in the sidecar of a motorcycle.

  • The Side Car: Cognac, Cointreau and 12 oz fresh lemon juice $7

The Downton Abbey film will play at the Harbor Springs Lyric Theatre for advanced screenings on Thursday, September 12 and Thursday, September 19. Advanced tickets are required.

Heading to the premier? Come dine with us on Thursday, September 12 or Thursday, September 19 and mention you are on your way to the movie premier downtown and receive 10% off your food order.
