How They MetThey first met during the summer of 2010 in Petoskey at a work anniversary party. At the time, Ali was completing her internship at Stafford’s Bay View Inn, while Marc worked in the corporate office as an accounting assistant. About a month after meeting at the party, Marc asked Ali out on a date and the rest was history.
Marc & Ali were very excited to be spending a weekend on Mackinac Island with good friends Ken & Dana. Their second evening on the Island started with cocktails in the Cupola Room located at the top of the Grand Hotel. After drinks, they headed down to the ferry docks where the four of them boarded a Sunset Cruise, which would take them on the straits of Mackinac. Before they even left the dock, Ali couldn’t wait to go to the upper deck to watch the sunset. Little did Ali know, the next time she stepped back on land she would have a fiancé! Marc’s timing was impeccable as he got down on one knee, just as the sun was setting with the Island in the background. He then asked Ali to be his wife. Ali was so shocked that this was (finally) happening. Of course, she said YES! Marc & Ali spent the rest of the night celebrating and enjoying the excitement of the engagement.
Why They Chose Northern Michigan As Their Wedding Destination
Stafford’s Hospitality and Petoskey, Michigan hold a special place in their hearts. This is where they first met and this is where they wanted to start their married life together. Northern Michigan has the best hospitality, in particular Stafford’s is known for great service and amazing food. They couldn’t have imagined having their wedding at any other location. Choosing Stafford’s to host the wedding reception was the easiest choice during their planning.
Wedding Details & Fun Facts
Their wedding day, like many wedding days, came with its set of challenges. The ceremony was planned at Bay Front Park West right on Little Traverse Bay. However, a major storm rolled through Northern Michigan making it impossible to have the ceremony outside. The decision was made to move to Plan B and hold the ceremony indoors in the beautiful Reycraft Room.
During the day, all the power in the entire City of Petoskey went out – including The Perry Hotel. There was no power for 3 hours which spanned over the ceremony and cocktail hour. Rolling with the punches, the staff along with all of the vendors had their own set of challenges and did a tremendous job dealing with the unforeseen power outage. Everyone did such a great job making everything run seamlessly. Even with all of the craziness that came with the day, they would not change a thing. It is a day that will be cherished forever!
