Welcome to the first Winesday series! Our beverage masters have selected the finest wines to feature and today’s comes from Stafford’s Pier Restaurant in Harbor Springs.

The Prisoner Red Blend, California
Cabernet – Syrah – Zinfandel
This is a powerful red blend that is popular in California. It combines California’s two favorite red wine varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel with Syrah, an increasingly popular variety in the state, particularly along the Central Coast. Combined, the three make a big, bold wine with deep color, high alcohol and serious tannin.

This wine pairs well with:

  • Beef brisket
  • Lamb
  • Burgers & fries

Garnet in color, The Prisoner is quite dark in the glass.  Just a little bit of light shines through. On the palette, you will taste some ripe raspberry and pomegranate at the start, along with other juicy red fruits, which then gave way to a sweeter vanilla flavor. The wine’s mouthfeel was quite silky. Tannins were masked but noticeable enough behind the upper lip. The finish of this wine is long and lasting, smooth and luscious.
