Local Rising Stars Expand Their Hospitality Knowledge-Receive Certification

Beth Cottee, Human Resources Director, Jody Ewbank, Director of Restaurants, and Chiara Bishop, Operations Manager, congratulate Melissa “Frankie” Rhoden, Noggin Room Pub Supervisor and Joy Fidler, Crooked River Lodge Assistant Manager for recently completing a 12-week premier course offered by Hospitality Training Institute of Michigan (HTIM). They both received the Hospitality Business Management Certificate.

The twelve weeks of instruction cover a wide range of business and leadership topics. It is designed for employees who already have some experience working in restaurants, hotels, or other hospitality businesses, and want to step up to the next level in their career.

Both Joy and Frankie mentioned liking how some of the programs were specifically tailored to their current job duties. They both agreed that identifying ways to improve processes is important, so being able to learn more about some of the current hospitality best practices was very appealing. They also felt this was a great opportunity to improve their skill-set and apply it to their current hospitality position.

“This has been a fantastic program so far,” said Beth Cottee, SHRM-SPC. “As a Human Resources Director in the hospitality industry, I wholeheartedly believe that providing opportunities for our employees to develop their talents and skills is crucial to the success of our organizations.  I also feel that this initiative from the Hospitality Training Institute of Michigan is going to be key to build up the next generation of hotel and restaurant operations management here in Michigan.”
